The Needle's Eye
Hmmm. I haven't done one of these in a while. Tonight, I want to use a song that is rapidly becoming one of my top favorites. It's performed by Caedmon's Call, and ironically enough, I also chose it yesterday as my Song of the Day. The first stanza, obviously, refers to Jesus and His birth, life, death, and resurrection. The next several verses shift the focus to the narrator's point of view. How he's tried to embrace the views of the world (chasing the wind and the earth) and its inability to fulfill him. How he finds he must aim for the needle's eye (Mark 10:25) to find Jesus and the kingdom of Heaven. The chorus is a beautiful praise about the Holy One who beckons the morning light (Isaiah 45:7), sets loose the gails (Mark 4:41), and ties the trees down tight (Ezekiel 17:24). I love the phrasing of how we are surrounded by a world that tears at our souls, threatening to split it, but we find hope and stay in the Lord. This is an awesome song. So enough with my comments. Here are the lyrics...
There's Only One (Holy One)
by Caedmon's Call
Left His seamless rope behind
Woke up in a stable crying
Lived and died and rose again
Savior for a guilty land
It's a story like a children's tune
And it's grown familiar as the moon
So now I ride my camel high
And I'm aiming for the needle's eye
I chased the wind, but I chased in vain
I chased the world, but it would not sustain
There's only one who never fails
To beckon the morning light
There's only one who sets loose the gails
And ties the trees down tight
When all around my soul gives way
He is all my hope and stay
There's only one, only one Holy One
Lord, You are my prince of peace
But this war brings me to my knees
See there's a table You've prepared
And all my enemies are there
But where my Shepherd leads, where else can I go
Who else fills my cup till it overflows
There's only one who never fails
To beckon the morning light
There's only one who sets loose the gails
And ties the trees down tight
When all around my soul gives way
He is all my hope and stay
There's only one, only one Holy One
There's only one who never fails
To beckon the morning light
There's only one who sets loose the gails
And ties the trees down tight
To the Solid Rock I fly
Though He bids me come and die
There's only one, only one Holy One
Verse of the Day: "I tell you the truth, Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or field for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields - and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first." - Mark 10:29-31
