For the Love of Grime
It felt good to return to work at the Haywood Chick-Fil-A this evening. You know, it's hard to realize sometimes that I've been doing the backbar for over five years now, at three different locales, the same duties. Yet it never seems to get dull or boring (not even when Greenville Mall was at its slowest) washing and scrubbing the floors, serving the food, breading filets, and cleaning out the insides of the chicken fryers. Truth be told, I love to do it. I just couldn't imagine looking elsewhere for a job this summer when the Greenville Mall was no longer an option, although I was prepared to do it (I filled out resumes for two CVS stores and a CrossWay store on Woodruff Road). Chick-Fil-A just treats me so well, especially at Haywood. Of course, my parents worry about my locale being at such a high profile mall that can attract potential trouble-makers; in fact, I was finishing up the night shift one evening this summer when we were told about a shooting in the parking lot. So I definitely understand their fears. But still, everything we do in life has risks. Knowing me, I could step out my bedroom door and break my arm slipping on a water puddle. Maybe I should just chain myself in bed to keep from having klutz attacks. Heh.
Some good news today. I got my fall schedule adjusted in a great way. There was finally a new opening in the Religion class I've been keeping an eye on all summer. Originally, I had to drop that class for a second English class along with my Computer course. But I talked with my advisor and we agreed to substitute Computer for the Religion class, so I'll keep both English courses. That should keep me on track with the requirements of my major. So I'm glad that worked out so well. I've been anticipating this particular course since my freshman year.
My friend Lauren Harris got home from Connie Maxwell today. Of course, she's turning right around to go to a collegiate retreat at Ridgecrest with Anna Lovett and thousands of other college students. I guess she'll have to take a break on Saturday if she still plans to attend Chris and EA's wedding and then go back that night or the next day or whatever. Poor girl, she'll be exhausted before school even starts. I guess all the missionairies for summer are back home by now. Hopefully, I'll see most of the BCM gang this weekend. So yay for that. :)
