The Needle's Eye

"This story like a children's tune. It's grown familiar as the moon. So I ride my camel high. And I'm aiming for the needle's eye." - Caedmon's Call

Welcome, Summer

It's never fun to have to pick up your journal after such a long hiatus. I'll leave it at that. Spring term was interesting, and certainly never dull.

Classes generally went well. I haven't received my final grades yet, but I have good hopes that I finished strong. As per the norm, there were some peaks and valleys along the way, but things do have a way of working out in the end (thank you, Lord). Take Communications, for example. I limped into the halfway point of the course with a dismal C grade. I had just completed the first three speeches and was going nowhere fast. But once we got to the speeches that really counted, I found my groove and turned that course completely around. My professor said I had brought my grade up to an A- heading into the final exam. How incredible is that? I was almost dead in the water halfway through, and then righted my ship just in time for the home stretch. Gah. I think I'm hitting the bottom of the bay with the metaphors. Orwell would be shocked.

English stayed pretty solid all the way through. I'm expecting a B in that course. Environmental Science had a couple rough patches, but I think I've done well enough in everything else to earn a good grade. God, I can't thank you enough for answering my prayers. You deserve all the glory and honor for this. Everything I accomplished was because of Your power flowing through me. I don't know how You can be so patient with me sometimes; surely the stupid things that happen when I try to do things my way must give You headaches. :) But You've always seen me through in the good times and bad. Thank You for Your peace and never-ending grace. I love You, Lord.

BCM was excellent this term. We staged our annual Dinner Theatre production at Berea First Baptist and on campus. The title of the play was "Leave it Behind." Imagine this. Jesus Christ comes to the Earth and carries out His ministry in our time. His teachings and the truth behind them change the lives of those who follow Him, the disciples, forever. That was the premise for our skit. And oh gosh, it was unbelievable! Andrew and Chris wrote such an inspired script, and the actors all got into it and just took this thing to a level that let us really connect with the ones who viewed it. This was truly an activity I can look back on and feel so wonderful about because I feel God touched so many people through us every time we dd this skit. He spoke to us every time we practiced and performed it. It wasn't always easy to do that when you consider classes and everything else we had going on, but we all came through, had lots of fun, and grew closer as a group. I'm so blessed to have friends like these.

More on the past later; now to say a few words about the present. I finally landed a job for the summer today at the Chick-Fil-A of Haywood Mall. Yes, I know; what a shock. I can't seem to stay away from this restaurant. And who can blame me? CFA's been wonderful to me for the past five years, so I'm in no hurry to discontinue our relationship. Ahem, but anyway, I'll start bright and early tomorrow morning and work a day shift. Wow. I haven't done that in a while, so that'll be fun. The operator seems very friendly and easy to talk to. That, and he knows one of my teachers at SFCS. That's always a plus. So I'm looking forward to that.

Vacation Bible School starts again in about two-and-a-half weeks. I can't believe how quickly it's come back around! Our theme this year is the Ramblin Road Trip: Which Way Do I Go, and we'll be using Psalm 25:4 as our Bible verse for the week. I'll be leading the music for the third year in a row, and helping mostly with the 1st and 2nd graders. I just finished reviewing Jeff Slaughter's DVD that explains the body and hand motions behind the songs, so I'm officially jazzed about it now. Now I just have to decide on my attire that will play off the road trip theme. At least it's not anything like last year when I had to don a martial arts outfit.

Wow, so many things going on, so much that's passed, and not enough hours in the night to recount them all. But at least summer's here at last. Welcome, summer!
